When is luther series 5 coming out?
Good news everybody, the release date for Luther season five has been revealed and we do not have too long to wait.
The BBC has confirmed that DCI John Luther (played by Idris Elba) will be back on New Year’s Day at 9pm. The four-part series will run across consecutive nights, finishing on 4 January.
Up to now, trailers for the upcoming series reveal Luther straight back to his brooding best, yet this time using a new spouse, on the trail of a killer.
Of course, when you’re as far as a Luther-bore as I am, then you’ll know that Alice Morgan can also be set to make a reappearance in this series after seemingly being bumped off in the end of the previous one.

At the close of the trailer, fans are warned’that this may hurt’.
According to an official synopsis in the BBC:”When the moonless slopes of London give birth to another nightmare, DCI John Luther played by Idris Elba is called to immerse himself in the deepest depths of human depravity.
“While the monstrous and apparently indiscriminate killings become more audacious and public, Luther and fresh recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday played by Wunmi Mosaku are confounded with an intricate tangle of leads and misdirection that appears designed to protect an untouchable corruption.
“But as the situation brings him nearer than ever to the true face of evil, a reluctant Luther is forced to face the unburied demons of his recent past. Striding back in the line of fire, he should choose who to protect and who to sacrifice.
“Regardless of his next move, it will have devastating consequences for all those around him – and change John Luther forever.”
Speaking to the BBC back when the fifth show was announced, writer Neil Cross said:”We missed John Luther. We missed some older friends. And we wanted to create the biggest, scariest, darkest, most exciting series of Luther there has ever been. So that is what we’ve come back to perform.”
Speaking to Empire, Elba disclosed that this isn’t the last we are likely to see Luther, either.
Revealing:”This year isn’t the end. But there are a few real changes that will take place.”
