#MeToo has an accelerated impact in the US


#MeToo: On the 15th May 2017, the phrase “Me too” appeared in a tweet at around noon. It appeared 200,000 times in various tweets by the end of the day and tweeted 500,000 times until October 16. On Facebook, in the first 24 hours, over 4.7 million people in 12 million posts used hashtags. The platform reported that 45% of users in the United States had a friend posted on that word.

Feminist author Gloria Feldt stated in Time that circumstances forced many employers to change the response to #MeToo. For example, to monitor gender-based wage differences and to improve sexual harassment policy. Others have noted that there has been pressure on companies, specifically in the financial industry, to disclose diversity statistics.
